Ontake 2240

Ontake 2240 is one of Japan's highest ski resorts, perched on the slopes of the sacred Mt. Ontake volcano at an elevation reaching 2,240 meters. The extreme altitude produces exceptional snow quality — fine, dry powder that rivals the best snow in Japan. With 7 courses served by 4 lifts, the resort is compact but offers a unique alpine atmosphere that feels worlds apart from the busy resorts of northern Nagano.

The resort's remote location in southern Nagano means fewer crowds and a more authentic mountain experience. Clear days offer breathtaking views of the Central Alps and, on occasion, distant views of Mt. Fuji. The terrain includes a mix of wide groomed runs and some steeper pitches suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers. The Kiso Valley below is rich in Edo-period post-town history, and the area's numerous onsen provide the perfect end to a day on the mountain.
